Let’s be honest, not everyone has a strong sense of visual literacy. To have a keen appreciation of contrast, alignment, repetition, proximity, type, depth, shape, colour, space, etc, requires alot of practice and experience. Visual literacy is highly subjective like any other art forms. Sometimes, it is hard to know what you are looking for or what is “nice” until you see it. We have all looked at a poster, infographic or video and go, “urgh, that is not what i am looking for. Something is not right but i am not sure what it is.”
As a novice in visual design, i found Adobe Spark extremely impressive. Adobe brings together all its knowledge with colors, type, space, alignment and shape into Spark, allowing even the most visually illiterate individual to create stunning graphics and videos. What impressed me the most is the pseudo-intelligence Adobe builds into Spark that generates countless visual possibilities of what you intend to create automatically! Let me show you what i mean.
Adobe Spark literally takes you by your hand and lead you step by step. Here, i am asked what i would like to say and i simply entered a quote that i like.
This is exactly what i got after clicking “continue”. Doesn’t this look good? Just look at the background image, the font, colour and how certain words are larger than the others! Adobe spark is definitely trying to make sense of my quote and making “perfection”, “not when” and “take away” bolder and larger just nailed what the quote is trying to say! When i say no visual literacy is needed, i literally mean it.
Adobe Spark has a cool feature called “magic layout”. It automatically adjusts the font size and configuration as you change the size of the text box, while making sure that it looks visually pleasing! Notice how changing the size of the text box bolds and highlights certain words but not the other? You can simply drag the text box till you get the text configuration that you like. Adobe Spark does all the work for you. Just click, drag and stop when you are pleased.
Adobe also allows you to change the photo filters which automatically adjust the colour and opacity. yes, automatically.
Next, Adobe allows you to use very complex colour palettes without having to know what matches and what clashes! Spark will only apply colour within the palette that matches your current design. Notice how the four different colours match the background seamlessly?
The last feature is really useful for those of you who do not even want to have anything to do with the first four steps. Just key in your text and click on the last “text” tab immediately. You will see this scroll wheel which allows you to generate endless variation of your original image and text. When i say endless, i literally mean it because Spark will continue to scroll through different styles even if you complete one full cycle with the wheel. It just keeps going!
These are just a couple of different design after scrolling through the wheel five times. Look at how distinctively different they are. Adobe really does a good job here by creating countless permutations based on their knowledge on various design perimeters!
